About the Artist
Joan Augustino is a contemporary primitive folk artist who loves to paint
Cape Cod coastal life. She is inspired by Early American architecture and
loves painting some of the beautiful homes and buildings on the Cape.
She also enjoys painting fond childhood recollections as well as favorite
Cape Cod landmarks.
A self taught artist working in acrylics, Joan started her career as a decorative
artist. She portrayed mermaids and nautical themes on wooden bowls, candle
boxes, and barrel staves.
Several years ago she made the transition from decorative art painted on
wood to easel painting. The move proved to be quite successful and her work
is in several galleries across the Cape and in Florida.
Joan lives in Marstons Mills, a quiet village on Cape Cod, with her husband,
John and their eleven year old retired greyhound, Paulie.
Joan has shown her artwork regularly at the Cahoon Museum of American Art
in Cotuit, Massachusetts. For the last several years, she has contributed
to the Great Brush Off Auction held by the Cahoon Museum in July. In addition,
Joan has a painting in the permanent collection at the Cahoon Museum.
She has also contributed to the annual auction held in August at the Fine
Arts Work Center in Provincetown.
She is a volunteer and member of the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable,
Massachusetts.
